Marathi Vishwa proudly embraces every opportunity to celebrate and promote events rooted in our rich cultural heritage. Gudhi Padwa, observed on Chaitra Shukla Pratipada, marks the beginning of the Hindu New Year and welcomes the vibrant spring season. On this day, the Gudhi—also known as Bramhadhwaj—is traditionally assembled, worshipped, and displayed upright at home, adorned with meaningful ornaments that blend symbolic and scientific significance. A key part of this display is the Gudhi Vastra, a rich, decorative fabric representing prosperity and good fortune.

This year, MV member and skilled artist Mrs. Megha Vanarase conducted a special workshop where participants learned to hand-stitch their own Gudhi Vastra using easily available household materials. Held on March 30, 2025—just ahead of the festival—the session was attended by over 30 participants and conducted entirely on Zoom.

We were fortunate when Mrs. Megha Vanarase, an enthusiastic and accomplished MV member and artist, approached us with the wonderful idea of guiding participants in hand-stitching their own Gudhi Vastra using simple, readily available materials—just in time for the Gudhi Padwa festival on March 30th, 2025.

She shared the supplies list in advance, helping members prepare ahead of time, and patiently guided everyone through fabric cutting, hand-stitching techniques, and useful tips—all without using a sewing machine.

Priya Godbole and Roopali Gune led the Zoom session, with valuable support from Mandar Kelkar. Marathi Vishwa extends heartfelt thanks to Mrs. Megha Vanarase for generously sharing her artistic talent and the cultural tradition of Gudhi Padwa by teaching us how to craft a beautifully stylized Gudhi Vastra.
